Barack Obama vs. John McCain

I don't watch too much TV. I rely on the internet for the latest news on current events, the rest of the stories that I've intentionally (and unintentionally) ignored, I hear from my family and friends. Obviously, the biggest news today is the announcement of the new President-elect, Barack Obama. I wasn't very keen on looking at his biography during the elections, but I got the feeling he'll win. He's got celebrity-supporters, according to CNN: Adam Arkin, Jodie Foster, Jamie Foxx, Tom Hanks, Paul Newman, Tom Skerritt, Will Smith, Isaiah Washington, and Joanne Woodward, compared to John McCain who seems to have no celebrities (actors/actresses) at his side. I am not saying the celebrities made Obama win, but actors and actresses are influential people - whoever they like, their die-hard fans like, too... I guess. hehe I'm thinking about the likes of Chris Crocker... I bet he'll vote for McCain if Britney Spears supported the guy. hehe Just kidding. It might be a shallow reason for some, but in politics, influence and connections matter. The more people you attract, the better chance.

McCain did, however, have Evelyn Lauder of Estee Lauder Company, Roger Enrico of Dreamworks SKG, and Bob Perry the major funder of "Swift Boats for Truth" PAC as major supporters. Quite boring, if you ask me. =/ Through June 2008, John McCain was able to raise a total of $144,071,945 from his fundraising, while Barack raised $349,716,137. Surprising? Not really. Moreover, Obama is a charming guy, and he's very articulate - he was the first African American to be president of the Harvard Law Review, and graduated with a Juris Doctor (J.D.) magna cum laude from Harvard in 1991. Very impressive. He's also younger compared to McCain (age 47, McCain's 72), and more persuasive. Again, Law School... but don't they also say that lawyers are the best liars? hehe He' not a lawyer, technically, because he is not licensed to practice law; he's a J.D. - a person who received the first graduate degree in law school, but they learn the same things, don't they? Anyways, lawyers=liars, is this true? I hate to sound like I'm generalizing people, sorry... ^_^

McCain, on the other hand, is clearly a supporter of Bush's plans, and with a lot of Bush-haters out there, I guess that pulled his votes down big time. Plus, his merits probably don't match that of Obama's. And, there were a lot of stories written about Obama (e.g. his grandma died, etc.) which, in my opinion, made him more popular; I can't remember anything striking about McCain... In my opinion though, McCain looks kinda nice (try looking into his eyes), but I guess he should smile more. Look at Obama's picture. hehe

Barack Obama is expected to take office as the forty-fourth President of the United States on January 20, 2009. Let's all hope he'll do a lot better than Bush, and the other previous presidents. With his credentials and all, I guess he's a better choice. But, people always rejoice in the beginning, and we always think we picked the right guy. I just hope he's the right one this time. =)

Mr.Obama deserved a rightful win. In spite his policies may increase taxes, yet they are aimed at all over development of all the nations. He has a good vision for the future and America sure has got its rightful president.

Yup. Thanks for the comment, bhavin. :) Good vision, a good speech, and a good background are what we hold on to for now... He still has a long way to go to prove himself. What matters most for the people and for the world, are not the actions and words before the election, but after it. I personally hope he'll do well, he seems fit for the job, but he still has to prove himself during his term. :) Mr. Obama's a nice, fresh change. I hope he'll continue being that. :)
